One day, Shiori, a mermaid girl who appeared out of nowhere, took Hinako’s hand—Hinako, who lived alone in a seaside village—and spoke to her tenderly. They say Hinako’s flesh tastes better than that of other humans. It’s said to have a special flavor that all yokai would crave... Shiori promises to protect Hinako until she ripens to her most delicious state,
and to eat her someday. A desperate wish wells up in Hinako’s heart. “Maybe this person will grant my wish.”

This Monster Wants To Eat Me

Hinako Yaotose, who had been spending her days in a daze, was just waiting for summer to end. One day, Hinako met a girl with eyes as clear and transparent as the deep sea. Even during class, that ocean-like girl kept popping into her mind. That same day, after school ended, Hinako suddenly sensed the scent of the ocean and the girl’s presence. Without even changing out of her indoor shoes, she headed straight for the beach. Then, something that wasn’t human emerged from the depths of the sea…

EP.01

"I've come to eat you." Shiori, who had said those words, transferred to the high school Hinako attends. Maybe she'll kill me. While secretly looking forward to it, Hinako feels anxious that Shiori isn’t making a move to eat her. When Hinako asks why she isn’t eating her, Shiori replies, “There’s a right time for humans to be eaten too”…

EP.02

Led by Shiori’s hand, Hinako ends up at the summer festival. But Shiori’s affectionate yet headstrong behavior triggers “that memory” in Hinako, causing her to shake off Shiori’s hand and run away into the crowd. When Shiori catches up to her, Hinako tells her about what happened in the past and asks if she really intends to eat her. Shiori’s answer to Hinako is…

EP.03

The blood of a yokai, invisible to ordinary humans. But for some reason, it seems Miko can see that blood. Miko even mentions that she’s been sensing the scent of a monster coming from Shiori. When Shiori appears in front of Hinako, who is hanging out with Miko after school, she strongly warns her to stay away from “it” as soon as possible…

EP.04

The battle between Miko and Shiori, who have revealed their true forms as yokai, begins. Hinako realizes that the reason Miko had been frequently ill up until now was because she had been holding back from eating, even though Hinako was right beside her. Just before the battle reaches its climax, Miko mentions the names of Hinako’s family members and expresses her feelings for Hinako. Hearing this, Hinako realizes that Miko is the very being with whom she made a promise long ago.

EP.05

Miko decides to give up two-thirds of her supernatural power and stay by Hinako’s side. Even now that she knows Miko is a yokai, Hinako insists that she remains her friend. That night, Shiori learns from Miko that the yokai began swarming Hinako immediately after “that accident”—the incident in which she lost her family and found herself teetering between life and death.

EP.06

At a rainy beach, Hinako encounters a mysterious entity formed from the lingering grief of people who lost their lives in an unexpected accident. Shiori notices the scar on Hinako’s body left by the accident and tells her, “What matters isn’t how you look on the outside, but that you are Hinako.” A few days later, Miko asks Hinako to join the basketball team’s training camp as their manager.

EP.07

Shiori hears from Miko about the scars left on Hinako’s body. She hears about how surviving the accident was nothing short of a miracle, and how agonizing it is to live alone while struggling with the pain… Meanwhile, while talking with Ayame, Hinako finds herself seeing her deceased mother’s face superimposed on Ayame’s. Upon hearing this, Ayame confesses that she, too, was once a “mother.”

EP.08

"Humans who've been fed their own blood don't taste good—they're not fit to eat." Unable to get Ayame's words out of her head, Hinako decides to ask Shiori directly to confirm whether they're true. Whether Shiori’s blood is inside her body, and whether they had met before. In response to Hinako’s question, Shiori begins to recount what happened before “that incident”…

EP.09

Shiori tells Miko a story from the past. It’s a story about how she once lived with a girl in a fishing village. But it’s also a story about how the girl came to hate her because she had fed her her own flesh. It’s a story about how she came to realize that she was an outsider, unable to share her heart with anyone. It’s a story about how, decades later, she met Hinako and finally felt as if she had been invited into the world. And it’s a story about how her feelings for Hinako began to blossom…

EP.10

Hinako skipped school, claiming she had a cold. Realizing she was faking it, Miko heads to Hinako’s house. Miko tells Hinako an old story she heard from Shiori and says she’s glad Hinako is still alive. But Hinako blurts out that she wanted to die with her family.

EP.11

Shiori tells Hinako that they met over a decade ago and reveals her true wish. Shiori simply wanted Hinako to stay alive. She had only told Hinako what she wanted to hear in order to keep her alive. Upon hearing this, Hinako yells at Shiori to leave her alone now.

EP.12

As a thank-you for helping out with the basketball team’s training camp, Miko is invited to a ryokan and sets off on a hot spring trip with Hinako and Shiori. Even on the trip, Shiori looks gloomy as she recalls the promise she made with Hinako. Miko deliberately creates an opportunity for Hinako and Shiori to spend time together. Meanwhile, Hinako also experiences an unexpected change of heart…
